Happy May!
This is the month to celebrate Mother’s Day, May flowers, and Victory gardens!
This blog is a tribute to moms and their natural instinct for appreciation, and nurturing of their children.
The phrase “seeing the world through our children’s eyes” has never been so appreciated.
Many of us have had much more time with our children. This pandemic is giving us a wide variety of different experiences. If you are a mom who has been given a lot more time with your kids, it can be wonderful as well as challenging.
There have been many suggestions of things to do with your kids during this time. I have just one more suggestion. Some of you are avid gardeners, and some of you (like me) have NEVER had a garden.
Last year my daughter introduced me to gardening. The timing for starting a garden with your child is perfect!!
I am not a gardener, but as with so many things, through my daughter’s eyes I have learned to appreciate a simple garden. Your children can too! She started me out last year with a simple tomato plant on the back porch. The cherry tomatoes produced by that plant were soooo delicious!
It could be so fun for your child to start a garden with you. It can be as simple as one tomato plant in a pot on your back porch, to a more complex garden in your back yard. Your kids can participate in the experience of growing and eating their own food, no matter how big the garden is.
Don’t be afraid to try it if you have never tried before. If I can do it, you can do it. You can start small. You and your child will enjoy watching the plants grow, and be amazed how delicious food from your own garden can be! Experiencing the wonder of growing a garden through our child’s eyes could be one of the positive things that comes out of this pandemic.
