The South Lake Pediatrics Soothing Stars program is our approach to managing pain and is designed to take the fear out of receiving injections and other procedures.
South Lake Pediatrics Pain Management Program
In Soothing Stars, our care team works with parents and patients to develop individualized care plans that minimize discomfort and ease worried minds. Soothing Stars is intended for children aged infant to adolescent, and is available to all South Lake Pediatrics patients.
No one enjoys getting poked at the doctor’s office! But at South Lake Pediatrics, your child is in good hands. Our care team is specially trained to make your child as comfortable as possible. We can provide several soothing techniques that will help calm nerves and increase comfort to ensure that you and your child have a positive experience.
Soothing techniques include:
- Distraction methods
- Numbing cream (applied at home)
- Preferred environment
- Soothing positions
- Sugar water (babies)
- Breastfeeding

You know your child better than anyone else. That’s why we rely on your input about what will and won’t soothe your child during a stressful procedure. With your guidance, our specially trained team will develop a customized pain management plan structured around your child’s personal preferences.
Distraction Techniques
Our pediatric healthcare team has been specially trained to use distraction techniques to minimize a child’s discomfort during injections and procedures.
A variety of items and activities can be used to distract your child during their procedure. Children engaged in activities like blowing bubbles, listening to music, reading a favorite book or playing with a toy may not even notice when the injection happens! Watch this demonstration.
Soothing Positions
Your child may have a position that makes them feel most comfortable and safe during procedures. Whether it’s cuddling with a family member, holding a hand, lying down or sitting upright, we’ll find the best positioning for the procedure and child.
